E.P.G. Recipients 2016
The Educational Program Grant Committee awarded over $4000 to programs that enhance the education, talents, skills, character, and community involvement of its students. After careful review of grant applications, the committee decided to award seven programs with their requested funds. Ramona High School ($1,830), Ramona Elementary ($500), James Dukes Elementary ($725), and Barnett Elementary ($1,050) were the recipients of the grant. We surprised Ramona High School and awarded the teachers their grant check during class. Read about their programs below.
6th Marine Science Lab
Kim Schramm, sixth grade teacher of James Dukes Elementary, received $725 toward the 6th grade marine science program. The funds will be used to take two sixth grade classes from James Dukes Elementary to the Marine Science Floating Lab. The Marine Science program is a half-day field trip conducted in the San Diego Bay on a boat outfitted with oceanographic equipment specially for student use.
Phantom 3 Drone
Ramona High School was awarded three different grants. $790 went to Brad Davis’s Naval Science 4A: Introduction to Flight and Naval Science 4B: Aviation Systems classes. The funds will go toward the purchase of a Phantom 3 Quadcopter Drone System. The program will reinforce Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics focused learning objectives to aviation interested seniors.

4th Grade Music
4th grade music is back! The $500 grant will go towards the purchase of 20 additional recorders and 40 beginning recorder music books for student use. These would be used for all 4th graders for years to come. PTA funds would provide for sanitation products necessary to sterilize recorders after each use.

Student of History
Doug Banwart received $540 for his Students of History program. It is a online consortium of over 500 lesson plans and resources for US History and World History. They are student centered, engaging, thorough and rigorous lesson plans for students that offer opportunities to students to develop 21st century skills.
5/6 Yearbook Staff
The Barnett Elementary 5/6 Yearbook Staff program, organized by Randall Schimpf, was presented a check for $550. The educational grant has allowed them to meet their goal of purchasing an additional 3 cameras so multiple students could use cameras at their organized events, thus allowing the students to learn photography and appropriate critiquing skills necessary to develop the finishing product.
Character Education Grant
$500 was awarded to Ramona Elementary’ s Character Education program to encourage a school wide message of being a positive citizen inside and outside of our school community. The grant funds will go toward the purchasing eight vinyl character education banners to be displayed in the school cafeteria.

English III Honors
$500 went to Carol Canfield’s English III for her Literature Circles. Students will plan, participate, read, write and communicate within groups to meet many English Language Arts standards as well as literary standards. Congratulations to Mrs. Canfield and her English Honors students!
